Volunteer at Waters
Parent volunteers are an integral part of our community here at Waters. WatersToday organizes the school's many volunteer opportunities, providing a link between administrative and staff needs with parents seeking to get involved with school. We would love to meet you! Get into the mix of our vibrant school life, get to know other parents, and connect with the school’s fabulous staff. Check out our list of volunteer opportunities below and email waterstodayolunteers@gmail.com.
Before you join us... Make sure to become an approved CPS Volunteer
All chaperones, and participants in any school related volunteer activities must be a CPS approved volunteer. It’s easy. Just complete the CPS volunteer application at cpsvolunteers.org, from there, you’ll get an email directing you to show your I.D. in the office at school, once that’s done, you’ll receive one final email from CPS declaring you to be officially approved to volunteer within CPS.

Environmental Science Support
The Waters Environmental Science and Ecology Program needs volunteers on a regular basis for field trips, classroom projects, and more, especially in the fall and spring. There is also work to do in the garden in the afternoon and evening and on weekends. Email waterstodayvolunteers@gmail.com for more information. Visual Arts Program Support Waters Art teacher extraordinaire, Mrs. Vecchioni, needs volunteers on an ongoing basis to help photograph student artwork and archive it on Artsonia. She also needs a team of volunteers throughout the year, to help hang and take down student artwork for several visual arts showcases including the fall and spring art shows, Day of the Dead celebration, and more. Email waterstodayvolunteers@gmail.com to get involved with our amazing art program. Grant Writing Grants help sustain school programs and buy needed equipment and materials. It’s true, we can never have too much grant money! Help us broaden our reach toward the funding that’s out there. If you can help write grants, or if you know of a foundation whose funding interests matches our goals, email waterstodayinfo@gmail.com to get involved. Harvest Day Centered around the Waters garden, our annual fall Harvest Day party typically occurs during the last week of October, and celebrates the end of the summer growing season. Volunteers are needed to work with the school to plan the event and to help throughout the day, with activities such as face painting, the petting zoo, roasting potatoes for the children to feast on in the garden, the pumpkin patch, and more. Email waterstodayolunteers@gmail.com to help with this wonderful celebration of fall. |
Book Fairs
Waters hosts a Scholastic Book Fair every fall. This wonderful shopping event is very popular with our students and their teachers. We are always looking for parents to help coordinate the book fair. If you are interested, please email waterstodayvolunteers@gmail.com. STEM Exhibition Judges Parents and caregivers can volunteer to judge the middle school STEM Exhibition, which is hosted by our middle school science teacher, Mrs. Ballasch, and usually occurs in December. Watch for more information in Green Notes and reach out to Mrs. Ballasch to volunteer. Room Parents Many teachers find it helpful to have a room parent, someone the teacher can communicate with directly to coordinate classroom needs, volunteers, special events, and more. If you are interested in this role, please contact your Mr. Rutkowski. Fundraising Team Support We’re always looking for parents to help WatersToday with:
